Browser compatibility with our payment system

You may see a TLS security error when making a payment using our Civica payment system: 'Unable to connect, an unsupported protocol is being used by your browser'

This error appears because our payment system at civicapay.co.uk will only accept TLS 1.2 connections and your browser will need to be upgraded as below to be able to make a payment.

Moving to only accept TLS 1.2 is a payment card industry mandated change to protect your data.

The following browser versions (and above) support TLS 1.2. Anything below this will need to be upgraded:

  • Chrome v30
  • Android v4.4
  • Firefox v24
  • Internet Explorer v8 (although TLS is disabled by default below v11. TLS is not supported at all on Windows Vista)
  • Opera v17
  • Safari v7 with OSX v10.9
  • Safari mobile IOS v5

If your browser is not listed, please check with the vendor if TLS 1.2 is supported and how to enable it.

If you have a supported browser and see this page, there is a configuration change needed in most cases.

  1. Click on the cog (top right of the browser window)
  2. Internet Options
  3. Advanced tab
  4. Scroll down to Security
  5. Tick 'Use TLS 1.2'
  6. Click 'OK'
  7. Refresh the page
