About council tax
Council tax is a local property tax. Council tax applies to all residential properties such as houses, bungalows, flats, maisonettes, houseboats and mobile homes, regardless of whether they are rented or owned.
Each property is placed in one of eight bands, A-H. A is the lowest band and H the highest. Each band is based on a range of values, based on the capital value of a property as at 1 April 1991. The amount of council tax that you pay depends on the banding of your property and the number of occupiers aged 18 or over.
The council tax you pay goes towards local services provided by
Gloucestershire County Council, the police and Cheltenham Borough
