Burrow's improvement project

Grassy football pitch at Burrows playing fields with large tree and houses in the background

We're working with Leckhampton Rovers Football Club (LRFC) on a project to improve playing surfaces and to refurbish the pavilion at Burrow's playing fields.

The pitches are in need of improvement, including levelling, drainage and reseeding.

The pavilion needs refurbishment as it doesn't meet the current sporting requirements for changing facilities.

These improvements will ensure that Burrow's provides fantastic sporting facilities for many years to come for the whole community. The space will enable everyone to enjoy outdoor activity which is good for physical and mental wellbeing.

Project overview

LRFC is working with the council on these improvements and to make Burrow's Field its home ground.

The Grounds Management Association have provided an expert assessment of the playing fields at Burrow's and made a number of recommendations.

Recommended work to the fields includes:

  • stripping the existing fields
  • levelling the playing surfaces
  • putting in new drainage
  • replacing the topsoil
  • reseeding the whole site
  • upgrading the cricket square
  • completing the circular footpath

This part of the project will be completed over a two year period, half being done in 2021 and half in 2022. The aim is to start each phase around May each year.  Each phase will take around three months to complete. This will enable the site to be continually accessible by the local community whilst the works are carried out.

The “look and feel” of Burrow's will remain unchanged once the work is completed, but with much improved playing surfaces.

Recommended work to the pavilion:

Plans for the pavilion include internal refurbishment in line with existing sporting standards. This will provide a community hub enabling people of all ages and abilities to enjoy sport at Burrow's.

The pavilion refurbishment is expected to take around six months.

Funding

Funding is expected to come from a number of different sources including:
