Bafford Conservation Area Character Appraisals & Management Plan (June 2009)

Local planning authorities need to make an assessment of the special character and appearance of all conservation areas in their districts. This assessment should be reviewed every five years.

Bafford conservation area management plan with an accompanying character appraisal was adopted by the council on 29 June 2009 as a supplementary planning document.

The character appraisal provides an assessment of the character of the conservation area. It provides the basis for an accompanying management plan which gives guidance on how the preservation or enhancement of the character or appearance can be achieved. The management plan element forms a supplementary planning document (SPD) which provides a sound basis for development control decisions made by the local authority (such as the design of highways or the appropriateness of the design of new buildings or open spaces). The SPD has replaced supplementary planning guidance produced by the council in 2003.

Representations made on the draft version of the character appraisal and management plan SPD, along with the council's response to them can be found in Consultation Representation Report.
