Why we collect information about you

We collect information if you have been involved in an incident with council staff which includes Councillors, Contractors and partner organisations such as Cheltenham Borough Homes, Publica and Ubico.  This is in order to protect staff from verbal and physical aggression under our duty of care to staff (Health and Safety at Work Act 1974).

What information do we collect about you?

We collect information about:

  • you (name, address, contact details)
  • details of any incident you have been involved in with council staff

Who do we share the information with?

  • Council staff including councillors
  • Companies owned by the council - Cheltenham Borough Homes
  • Council shared services - Counter Fraud
  • Partner organisations such as Publica and Ubico
  • Contractors working on the council’s behalf

Is any information transferred to or stored on servers based outside the European Economic Area?

No

How long do we keep your information?

We keep information about you for a maximum period of 6 months following removal from the personal safety register.

What are the consequences if we do not collect the data?

Council and partner staff will be put at risk. The council will be less able to help resolve customer issues.
