Why we collect information about you

We collect information to undertake investigation of complaints about food and food premises. We use your details when we need to contact you in relation to your complaint.

This is a statutory obligation undertaken by the council in accordance with the Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.

What information do we collect about you?

We collect information about:

  • You (name, address, contact details)

Who do we share the information with?

  • Personal data is not shared unless we have your specific signed written instruction that you are willing for us to share your details with the food manufacturer/vendor being complained about.
  • Number and nature of complaints are shared with central government agencies (Food Standards Agency and DEFRA)
  • Nature and circumstances of complaints are shared with other food and primary authorities if our investigation will be aided by doing so.

Is any information transferred to or stored on servers based outside the European Economic Area?

No.

How long do we keep your information?

We keep information about you for one year following the completion of our investigation.

What are the consequences if we do not collect the data?

The council will be unable to fulfil its statutory obligations to investigate complaints about food and food premises.
