Why we collect information about you

We collect information to undertake the funeral arrangements for those people who have died and have no known relatives to arrange the funeral

This is a statutory duty undertaken by the council in accordance with Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984.

What information do we collect about you?

We collect information about:

  • You (name, address and contact details)
  • Your relation to and knowledge of the deceased

Who do we share the information with?

  • Coroner
  • Treasury solicitor
  • Executors/administrators of the estate of the deceased

Is any information transferred to or stored on servers based outside the European Economic Area?

No.

How long do we keep your information?

We keep information about you for one year plus current.

Who do we collect information from?

  • Relatives and friends of deceased
  • Coroner
  • Health professionals
  • Landlords
  • Carers
  • Funeral Directors

What are the consequences if we do not collect the data?

The council will fulfil its statutory obligation to arrange the funeral for those who have died but there may be a delay and relatives will not be made aware of arrangements.

Are any decision about you made by automatic means?

No.
